St. Michaelisdonn Airfield (EDXM)

Description

St. Michaelisdonn Airfield (ICAO code: EDXM) is a commercial airfield with a 700 m long and 18 m wide asphalt runway with the orientation 07/25. To the north of the runway there is a 1000 m long towing section for the winch launch, which also serves as a runway for gliders. Night flying is possible by lighting the runway and landing threshold (RL/THRL). A VDF direction finder (cf. QDM) is available as a navigation aid.

Today, the airfield is mainly used for general aviation, scheduled flights no longer take place. The main user is the local air sports club, but the infrastructure is designed to handle commercial flights as well. The licence applies to aircraft, helicopters, motor gliders, gliders and ultra-light aircraft up to 5.7 t. It is open in summer from 10 a.m. local time until sunset (but no later than 7.30 p.m.). In winter it is already closed at 4 p.m. on weekdays. Prior registration is required for take-offs and landings outside regular opening hours (PPR). The name of the airfield is abbreviated on the radio, so the official call sign of the air traffic control is Sankt Michel Info. (see Wikipedia>/a>)
