The airfield Kulmbach is located north of the city Kulmbach. The favorable geographical position offers excellent entry-level possibilities for glider flight in the adjacent low mountain ranges, above all the Frankenwald, Thuringian Forest, Fichtelgebirge and the Franconian Alb, as well as the Erzgebirge, Oberpfälzer and Bavarian Forest as well as the Swabian Alb. The airfield is home to several glider clubs in the region. From Kulmbach from year-round flight operation is possible. The airfield connects to a forest area and has a high recreational value in the center of Upper Franconia.
