Kassel Calden (EDVK)

Description

Kassel-Calden Airport (proper name since January 2015: Kassel Airport) [6] is a regional airport opened on 4 April 2013 [7] in the area of the municipality of Calden, located northwest of the city of Kassel in the North Hessian district of Kassel. It is located in the neighbourhood of the commercial airfield Kassel-Calden, which was operated from 1970 to 2013 and is the only other commercial airport in Hesse besides Frankfurt am Main Airport. Initially, the airport was called Kassel-Calden Airport. At the meeting of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen GmbH Kassel on January 13, 2015, it was decided to change the name to Kassel Airport. The airport is operated by Flughafen GmbH Kassel, shareholders are the State of Hesse (68%) as well as the City of Kassel, the Kassel district (both 14.5% each) and the municipality of Calden (3%). The airport's asphalted runway (09/27) is 2500 m long and 45 m wide [5] In main approach direction 27, an approach procedure according to all-weather flight operation level CAT IIIb has been approved since 3 April 2014, and in secondary direction 09 already since 4 April 2013 with CAT I [5].
