DescriptionThe Aerodrome of Berriel (ICAO code GCLB) named for the ravine of the same name, is a private Spanish airfield located in the south of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana (Las Palmas) Spain. The airfield was inaugurated on June 13, 1970, it has an asphalt runway of 800 x 20 m. From the Berriel airfield operate aerial services of fire extinction of the Government of the Canary Islands, ultralights, helicopters, autogyros and aircraft of fixed wing, skydiving clubs and the aviation school Canavia Lineas Aereas. The climate of Berriel is characterized by scarce and irregular rainfall, less than 100 millimeters of annual average, and an average annual temperature of 23.5º C. Also, due to the general shortage of cloud cover, it enjoys a large number of sunny hours per year, so that 259 days a year are clear, making the aerodrome an ideal place to fly. A relic of pioneering commercial aviation, the Douglas DC-7 aircraft, the first aircraft to connect the eastern and western coasts of the United States without stops is located nearby.
