Castellet Airport (LFMQ)

Description

The airport is located 5 km north of Le Castellet . It is near the racetrack "Paul Ricard". In 1962, Paul Ricard created the largest private aerodrome in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with a 1000 m track reserved for VFR flights. In 1970 the construction of the racing circuit gives more activity to the aerodrome and in 1972, Paul Ricard invests by extending the runway to 1 750 m and can accommodate aircraft up to 50 tons . The aerodrome is experiencing intense activity with the Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1971 to 1990. In May 1999, the company Excelis SA bought the site (airfield and circuit) and modernized the facilities. The aerodrome has a single paved runway 13/31 (QFU 127/307) 5,740 feet (1750 m) long and 99 feet (30 m) wide . The aerodrome is not licensed for night VFR , but is IFR approved by day and by night . The aerodrome is forbidden to aircraft not equipped with radios and gliders, but also to ultralights with wind higher than 15 kts. The overflight of the racing circuit is forbidden below 1500 ft / sol. The above description has been prepared by IPACS forum user JetJockey10.
