Hilo International Airport is located on the east side of the Island of Hawaii. It is served by interisland airlines. The Big Island is home to active volcanoes, orchid farms, waterfalls and a rugged coast line. Formerly General Lyman Field, is owned and operated by the Hawaiʻi state Department of Transportation. Located in Hilo, Hawaiʻi County, the airport encompasses 1,391 acres (563 ha) and is one of two major airports on Hawaiʻi Island and one of five major airports in the state.
