Hessische Flugplatz GmbH Egelsbach (EDFE)

Description

On 3 July 2004, after a construction period of 15 months, the extension of the asphalted runway by 410 m to a total of 1400 m was put into operation. The extension was necessary due to changes in European aviation regulations in order to maintain commercial operations for aircraft of up to 20 tonnes take-off weight. For the extension, the course of the Hegbach brook, in which the protected fish species Groppe lives, had to be extended by 700 metres (can be seen in the photo). A complaint by the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) against the construction was rejected, as were objections by citizens' associations from surrounding communities such as Erzhausen. Due to the sharp increase in aircraft movements with fast flying aircraft (High Performance Aircraft - HPA) after 2004, the traffic mix of fast and slow aircraft had to be rectified in order to ensure continued safety and smooth traffic flows. Since March 2008, the airport has been the only one in Germany to have separate visual approach and departure procedures for fast and slow aircraft. For Gras RWY you can delete the textures from this rwy without Papi. The above description has been prepared by IPACS forum user uli057.
